Write your name on the sands of time

Footprints on the sands of time are not made by sitting down

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The sands of time is a literal way of referring to time, especially when you are talking about it passing very quickly. Writing your name or having your footprints on the sands of time literally means the same thing which is leaving a mark or making history while you exists.

The phrase is derived from a poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow above implies that you can’t leave your footprints by just sitting down.

What The Heart Of The Young Man Said To The Psalmist.

Tell me not, in mournful numbers,
   Life is but an empty dream!
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
   And things are not what they seem.

Life is real! Life is earnest!
   And the grave is not its goal;
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
   Was not spoken of the soul.

Not enjoyment, and not sorrow,
   Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
   Find us farther than to-day.

Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
   And our hearts, though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
   Funeral marches to the grave.

In the world’s broad field of battle,
   In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
   Be a hero in the strife!

Trust no Future, howe’er pleasant!
   Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act,— act in the living Present!
   Heart within, and God o’erhead!

Lives of great men all remind us
   We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
   Footprints on the sands of time;

Footprints, that perhaps another,
   Sailing o’er life’s solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
   Seeing, shall take heart again.

Let us, then, be up and doing,
   With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
   Learn to labor and to wait.

We can still call that buttprint though. So you’ve got to get your butt off from where you are sitting and start moving.

Before you can brag that you’ve written your name on the sands of time it means you must have become a person of substance or value so that even while you aren’t on earth anymore generations to come will still know about you for who you were and what you did.

How do you write your name on the sands of time?

How do you preserve a legacy and make your name not to be wiped out of the surface of the earth even for years after you no longer exist?

1.  By being great

William Shakespeare said

“Be not afraid of greatness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

William Shakespeare

But, I believe greatness isn’t awarded rather it is earned. You are great by the things you do in your lifetime but it shouldn’t end there, that greatness should also be written on the pages of history where generations can

Zig Ziglar also said

You don’t have to be great to start. But you have to start to be great”.

Zig Ziglar

2. Have a good name

You do know the notion that a good name is better than riches and gold, but unfortunately we live in a world where affluence and wealth is much more preferred to a good name. People no longer care how they acquire wealth, even if it means dragging their reputation in the mud.

You are remembered by what you’ve done, your imprints while on earth. Whether you are famous, rich or you’re a leader, a good name is what you should leave behind cause even those who were known for outrageous acts will still be remembered and their names will always be associated with those actions.

3. Write a book

I remember reading somewhere that if you wants to be remembered long after you’ve gone, you should write a book.

Writers like Chinua Achebe, Buchi Emecheta, Ken San-wiwa, etc., are still remembered today because of the great books they wrote, and the impacts they made in the lives of those who read them, and those who haven’t at least still hears about them.

It shouldn’t just be any kind of book but, books that leave positive marks and imprints on the minds and the lives of those who read them.

I’m sure you must have learned something today, so in everything you do in life from today, make sure your name will be written on the sands of time long after you leave this world by keeping a good legacy.

Some months ago, I was on Youtube and I watched a video of a girl who was praising a book she read. The title of the book is – How To Turn Yourself Into A Life Breathing Cash Machine and is written by Toyin Omotoso, one of the greatest young minds in Nigeria.

The book shares how to how to reprogram your mind to attract more money and prosperity into your life, and how to develop a prosperity mindset that consistently attracts ideas, opportunities and money. The author has also made it accessible online for a token.

I am off to write my book, you know my name has to be remembered too, not only yours. By the way, if you like the way I temporarily wrote my name on the picture there, you can customize yours too here, at least start with that till you finally and permanently write the name on the sands of time . . . lol

Alright have a lovely day!
