Basically I love reading books but hey not those school textbooks, they can be so boring 😔, not all though. Anyway I love fictional books.
Over to the book
There is this white-haired old man whom Mitch the author named Eddie. The book begins by introducing Eddie whose job is to maintain rides at an amusement park. On his 83rd birthday he died while trying to save a little girl from a falling cart.
He wakes up in Heaven where he meets five people who were waiting to reveal to him the real value of his meaningless life. People who had influenced and impacted in his life and he never knew the contributions each made while on earth. He learnt that the people we meet, the situations we experience, the events that happen in our lives are not coincidences but are interconnected in one way or the other; that all our stories overlap, and we should appreciate every act of sacrifice that people make no matter how little it might seem. Also that love and loyalty matters to a point we may never imagine or think of .
That there are no random acts. That we are all connected. That you can no more separate one life from another than you can separate a breeze from the wind.
Mitch Albom includes pieces of Eddie’s past birthdays and the events that might have taken place in the midst of Eddie processing the lessons. There are also moments where the book continues his story from the various points of view of those he left behind in order for the readers to understand the postmortem events that took place on earth. The transition is creatively written and the author is able to take you back and forth in time along with Eddie.
The Five People You Meet In Heaven is an incredibly good read and a quick read as well. I kept wanting to know who Eddie was going to meet next. It’s interesting seeing the way others’ imagination of heaven, I do believe there is an afterlife and the book makes me to keep wondering if indeed we will meet five people when we die and who they would be. If it makes you wonder too then grab the book and get to meet the five people Eddie met while in Heaven.
